Electrical cable design - cable outer sheath type
1. cable sheath, should meet the following requirements:
(1) communication system of single core power cable, when the need to enhance the cable to resist external forces,  should select non magnetic metal armor layer, shall not be used without through non-magnetic effective treatment of steel armour.
(2) in the humid, containing chemical corrosive environment or susceptible to water immersion of the cable, the metal layer, strengthening layer, the braid should be PE outer sheath, cable in water, thick steel wire armoured should be extruded outer protection layer.
(3) in crowded public facilities, and low toxic flame retardant fire resistance requirements of the place, can select PVC or ethylene propylene rubber that not contain halogen outer protective layer.
Fireproofing has low toxicity requirements, should not use PVC outer sheath.
(4) except -150C and below low temperature environment or medicinal liquid chemical immersion place, and low toxic and non inflammable requirement of cable extrusion outer protective layer should use polyethylene outside, other can use PVC protective layer.
(5) in water or liquid chemical immersion place, 6 - 35kV or above 35kV XLPE cable should be used in accordance with the requirements of the metal plastic composite water resisting layer and the metal sleeve radial waterproofer.
Laying in under water, medium and high voltage XLPE cable should have watertight structure.
2. Self contained oil filled cable strengthen layer type, when the line is not set stopper joints, between the highest and lowest point of elevation difference should be in accordance with the following requirements:
(1) only copper radial reinforcing layer, allowing height should be 40m; but used for an important loop is 30m.
(2) both radial and longitudinal strip strengthening layer, allowing high differential is 80m; but used for an important loop is 60m.
3. Selection of shield cable during directly buried outside, shall meet the following requirements:
(1) under high pressure cable or mechanical injury risk, should have strengthen layer or the armored layer. 
(2) in quicksand, backfill zone and other possible displacement soil, steel wire armored cable should be used.
(3) termites serious hazard area used the extrusion cable, should choose higher hardness of the outer protective layer, can also be the common external support layer extruded high hardness thin outer protective layer, the material can be made of nylon or special polyolefin copolymer, also can use a set of metal or steel tape armored.
(4) high underground water level area, should use polyethylene outer sheath.
(5) in addition to the above, can be used non-armored outer protective layer.
4. in the air during fixed laying, the cable sheath shall comply with the following provisions:
(1) small cross-section extruded insulating cable laying directly on the arm bracket, should have a steel armor.
(2) in the safety of the underground passenger transportation, commercial facilities and other requirements of high places severe rodent, plastic insulated cable should be with metal or steel tape armoured belt.
(3) cable in high drop, stress condition and multi core cable should be with steel wire armored and AC single core cables shall conform to the provisions.
(4) laid in the bridge and other supporting intensive cable without armor.
(5) should be coordinated with environmental protection, not use PVC outer sheath.
(6) except according to the above specification, and more than 60℃ high temperature places should be polyethylene heat-resisting outer sheath cable, other appropriate chooses PVC outer layer. 
5. mobile electrical equipment, such as the need to frequently bend or have high flexibility requirements loop cable, should use the rubber outer layer.
6. Radiation effect place of the cable shall with suitable radiation tolerance radiation intensity of polyvinyl chloride, chlorine butyl rubber, chlorine sulfonated polyethylene endures protective layer.
7. cable laied in protection tube, with extruded outer sheath.
8. under water laying cable selection, shall comply with the following provisions:
(1) in ditches, non navigable river cable without armor layer under tension, can choose the steel armor.
(2) River, lake and sea cable, selection of steel wire armored type should meet the stress condition. When laying conditions demand and mechanical injury prevention, protection, corrosion resistance can be selected to meet the requirements of the enhanced layer.
9. path through different laying conditions, the cable sheath, shall meet the following requirements:
(1) lines total length does not exceed the length of the cable manufacturing, should be selected to meet the full conditions same or small difference as possible more than one type.
(2) line total length exceed cable manufacturing length, according to the corresponding section respectively adopt  different suitable cable sheath types.
